2017 Mystery Quilt Assembly

It’s Time to Assemble the Quilt Top

The quilt top is made up of 25 quilt blocks arranged in rows of five across and five down. Blocks alternate from row to row, with rows 1, 3, and 5 beginning and ending with a flying geese-packed quilt block.

  1. Arrange into rows as shown below and then join the blocks in each row. Use straight pins to keep fabrics intact at matched intersections.
  2. Press seam allowances towards either block — whichever works best for your fabrics.
  3. Join the rows and press.
  4. Take a look at the image at the bottom of this page to see how the quilt looks with an easy patchwork border. It’s made from long strips of fabric combined with a few more flying geese — more about that on January 2. The geese could also be replaced by A/C quarter square triangle units that a few people made when there was an error in the pattern.
